Epidote was named by Rene Just Hauy in 1801, he used the Greek Word for epidosis, meaning 'increase', as one side of the Crystal Prism is longer/wider than the other. One of Epidote's traits is it's excellent pleochroism, where it displays different colours from different angles or directions.
