Natural Libyan Desert Glass Pendant

Libyan Desert Glass or Great Sand Sea Glass is an Impactite made mostly of Lechatelierite,(sylica glass) found in Areas in the Eastern Sahara, in the Deserts of Eastern Libya and Western Egypt. Impactite is Rock Created or Modified by one or more impacts of a Meteorite. Like Obsidian it was Knapped and used to make Tools during the Pleistocene.

This Rare Tektite is found in the Sahara Desert on the Border between Libya and Egypt, while it is always Yellow, it has a slight hint of Green when found in Egypt and is purer Yellow when found in Libya. Tektites are a type of Natural Glass created when a Meteorite strikes the Earth. Libyan Desert Glass was prized in Ancient Egypt.
